About our Group
We are a group of about 15 who meet monthly to hear about and discuss topics in science and technology. Anyone interested in science and engineering will be welcome at our meetings at the Sparrows Green Pavilion, Wadhurst, which has a capacity of 30. There is a charge of £2 per person per meeting to cover hire of the venue and tea with biscuits.

Guests and visitors may attend up to two meetings before having to join Wadhurst & District u3a. However, members of other u3a’s may attend as often as they please without having to join our own u3a. [Currently we count six members from three other u3a’s among our regular participants.]

Our meetings take the form of talks, nearly always given by one of the group, and/or
discussions, usually preceded by some reading, videos and googling. The topics are
suggested by the members of the group, especially those who volunteer to give a talk.

Talks this spring included Magnetism and the Rare Earths metals.

In May, we shall have a discussion on AI, centred round: generative AI models for the
general public and how to use them; news from the big players; robotics; social impact;
philosophical and moral questions. Looking at the list, we shall probably need another
meeting to cover all of it.

In the months that follow, our plans include talks on:

- The life of a star and the synthesis of the chemical elements,
- The discovery of the chemical elements, and the Periodic Table, and
- Quantum Mechanics and the Periodic Table.

And an update on climate change and carbon zero.

If the above topics appeal to you, please do send an email to the convenor by clicking on the link at the top of this page. A reply will confirm that you are on our mailing list and
you will receive invitations to our monthly meetings.
