Rules and Organisation

All equipment is provided. On joining the group, every member receives an individual booklet, which sets out the ‘Oxford’ rules and the layout of the lawn (although we do ring the changes every now and then).

The object of our mini tournament is for every member to play every other member over the season. The winner of a round gains 1 tournament point, the loser has “nul points”……but it is all good fun with lots of laughter, and some groans!

After each round the winners are entered on the Master Score Card. Most of us play for pure enjoyment, fresh air and lovely views, but things can get very competitive (even brutal) towards the end of the season! The objective is to win the much-coveted Season Trophy or one of the runner-up medals!

The dates of meetings are emailed to members in advance. Meetings are held on different days of the week (Monday-Friday), the assumption being that not everyone will be able to attend every meeting. In addition, on rare occasions, meetings may need to be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.

At the end of some sessions, if time permits, we play a round of Pirate Croquet. Playing in teams of 5-6 players, this is a light-hearted game in which you can steal points from another player by croqueting them, which means you don't know who has won until the very last shot has been played!

The cost of each session will be £2 per person – this will be used to offset the cost of the equipment, refreshments and a fee to the Wadhurst Cricket Club who kindly let us use the facilities in their Pavilion on the Commemoration Field.

NOTE: All players must be current paid-up members of Wadhurst & District u3a to join this Croquet Group

The convenor (or the nominated deputy) takes responsibility for unlock/locking the facilities, ensuring all equipment is set out on the field at the start of the session and then collected, cleaned and taken away at the end of the afternoon.
